Looks good, nowhere worth the premium

I bought the Brenthaven expandable case about half a year ago, shortly after I had purchased a Sony Z-series laptop. I was looking for a good quality case to carry a $2,000 laptop, and reputation and fitting looked to point to this Brenthaven case. It looked good, and looked like it was a quality product.
Key word is "looked."
Fast forward to a few days ago. I'd been using the case for six months, and was fairly happy with it, and was using it to take my laptop to work. And then the shoulder strap clasp broke. The *metal* shoulder strap clasp broke. Leading, predictably, to a case falling onto the concrete sidewalk.
Well, this Brenthaven case has the High Density Foam protection system, right? Everything should be fine, right?
Not so much.
I now had a dented laptop, a damaged Brenthaven case, and a broken shoulder strap on my hands. Contact Brenthaven, and they'll make good on it, right?
If only.
They're sending me a replacement shoulder strap and an apology, the minimum required by their warranty.
Here I'd bought what is generally viewed as a premium product by a premium brand, expecting to be have a good experience. Instead, I end up with a broken product that caused further damage. I've bought plenty of laptop bags, and not even my bags with *plastic* shoulder strap clasps have ever broken, even when carrying heavier loads.
My advice? Get something from somebody else. Something that won't just look good but fail in its basic goal.

Excellent case, great quality and multi-purpose: for routine and travel use

The case is really great quality, one of the first decent-quality bags I've purchased in a long time. The expandable feature is actually more handy than I would have expected. I purchased this to replace a routine bag I used to travel to and from work and between meetings. I used the Solo B64-4 SOLO Classic Collection Rolling Laptop Overnighter, Check-Fast Airport Security-Friendly Case Holds Notebook Computer up to 15.6 Inches, Black, B64-4 for overnight or day-travel business trips and also as a second bag on longer trips (see my review there for more info). This bag is well worth the price, as it has almost replaced both bags. I have been able to stuff almost everything I would have normally put into the overnighter into this bag. I carry all of my cables in the Victorinox case here Victorinox Travel Power Strip,Black,One Size and I can insert that into the center of this bag along with my files (quite a bit, about 1.5" worth), some magazines, my netbook ASUS Eee PC 1215B-PU17-BK 12.1-Inch Netbook (Black) and my tablet ASUS Transformer TF300 T-B1-BL 10.1-Inch 32 GB Tablet (Blue). This center "space" actually has a lot more room than the two separate side compartments would let you believe. Keep in mind, however, that my netbook is 12.1" and is pushed to one side of the bag and does not take up the whole length. Everything inside, there is a lot of extra room on top for my wallet, passport, watch, and sunglasses case for while I'm going through TSA security (I'd rather not leave everything loose going through those machines as people I know have lost things in there). It is a tight fit depending on what you have and may require you to pull the bag over the items since the "expansion" part is to one side of the bag and not centered. I have put so much in there on several trips and the zip was so tight that I am surprised it has not yet burst open. Clearly, it is well-made. My one design flaw that has bothered me is that I wish the exterior compartment was "expandable" or at least, "relaxed" a bit rather than just tightly built-in. I find it difficult to get anything in or out when the interior compartments of the bag are full. Overall, a great travel and routine bag.

Stylish but not an overstatement

My Macbook Pro 13" with the iPad 2 fits perfectly in this slim profile case without being too heavy or screaming look at me! This case you can fit my charger and mouse with maybe 15 files. My brother had a bad experience with an all leather beautiful high profile case that was taken from the airport rental bus between stops. This case is lite as a feather and still having a lot of room without using the expand feature. These are the items that I have in the bag without expanding the case:
1. Macbook Pro 13" Late 2012 model
2. Ipad 2
3. Chargers for both units
4. Iphone 5 and charger with several pens and USB thumb drives
5. 12 soft cover files containing 10-15 pages per file
In closing I really love this case and at first I thought that I needed the shoulder strap, however I just like carrying it without the strap due to it's lightweight.
