Logictech Fabricskin vs. Clamcase Pro -- and now the Winner
By Positive Logic
I ordered a Clamcase direct from them the morning before the 4th of July. Today, six days later -- I was so disappointed when the tracking number indicated that they only gotten as far as printing the UPS shipping label that I decided to order Logitech Keyboard Folio for iPad 2G/3G/4G - Carbon Black (920-005460) from Amazon.
It was at that point that I stumbled across the more recently released Logitech FabricSkin Keyboard Folio for iPad 2G/3G/4G - Mars Red Orange (920-005283).
Intrigued, I looked at a handful of Amazon and YouTube reviews. Long story short, I took a quick drive to Best Buy and grabbed it. I had done several days of research before ordering the Clamcase (CC) and I believe, that for most people it is one of the very best keyboard covers available today.
However, I am convinced that the Logitech Fabricskin (LF) is the right choice for me personally. Here's why:
1) Ease of using as tablet AND laptop. With the LF, I can very quickly open it and use it in laptop mode. The fabric based hinges are free swinging and easy to bend. So just as easily I can use my iPad in the traditional tablet mode. With the CC, you have swing the hinge 360 degrees. My understanding is there's some friction in that hinge that prevents it from falling over at different angles. Because I open my iPad and use it as tablet many times each day, it seemed a bit more of a hassle with the CC than is the case with the LF. Obviously, if you're planning to use the iPad with a keyboard most of the time, the CC becomes an attractive choice for you.
2) In Tablet position, it's not lying down in the keyboard. If you open the LF to full tablet position, you can lie the case down and the keyboard is not exposed to the the pastry crumbs and spilled coffee next time you're at Starbucks. With the CC's keyboard, it's totally exposed to the elements in tablet mode, so you really lose the option to lay it down flat.
3) The feel of the keys is great. I was apprehensive about using a flat and seemingly clumsy keyboard that looks like the toy keyboard that comes with Microsoft Surface. However, I was wrong. I acclimated to the LF keyboard within seconds. There is enough travel and mechanical feel to it that, you can basically have a rhythm and speed that is not dramatically different from a keyboard with actual buttons. In fact, I suspect that that's what's underneath the thing rubbery surface of the LF keyboard. I've read great things about the CC's keyboard. But I prefer the LF's design, which I believe minimizes its width.
4) Aesthetics. One of the benefits of the iPad is that it's cool looking. I think the coolness factor is in more in harmony with the FC than is the case with the CC, which essentially converts you iPad into something that looks like a laptop.
Any negatives? Yes, but nothing major: It's heavier than you'd expect. But I think that's the case for all these iPad keyboards. As pointed out by another review, it's probably the battery.
All in all, I don't want to discourage anyone from getting the CC. After all, I had done a tone of research into every iPad keyboard out there. If I had not discovered the LF, I think I would have been reasonably happy with the CC. But, overall, I'm convinced that the LF has has some nice attributes which are a better fit with the way I use my iPad.
UPDATE:July 2013
***I an finding that the iPad is really hard to take out of the frame once it's in. Because the surface of the iPad is pretty flush with the frame, there's hardly anything to grab onto if you're going to try and peel it back. I called Logitech Tech Support. They suggested pushing it out from that back. I tried that and, while it's still hard to do -- it worked. With the amount of pressure you have to exert, I was afraid of either breaking my case or my iPad.
***An annoyance that some reviewers have alluded to is finally catching up to me. The number row on the keyboard is shifted to the left in order to accommodate iPad home key while keeping the key size relatively "full-size." That's not great news if you touch type your numbers and symbols. So when I intend to type "1" I get the home key. When I reach for "2" I get one instead. During my first copy days, I thought this annoyance would take care of itself...but NO -- as I use the keyboard more and more, I find myself make these errors pretty consistently. I continue to love this keyboard, but I would have preferred they leave off the home key and put shift the more frequently used numbers/symbols to where belong.
UPDATE August 2013
I now have purchased a Belkin Ultimate and I just thought mention how the Fabricskin compares with it. Overall, I like both keyboards and if I had to split hairs I'd say the Belkin is offers a slightly more accurate and solid typing experience. The Fabricskin is solid -- but gets a couple demerits for shifting the number row to the right a little and making the "A" key a Caps Lock Key. Not a huge deal.
However, the Fabricskin does a better job in the bigger picture of keyboard and case joined into a cohesive, solid package. For example, when opening and closing the Ultimate keyboard, you have to hold the iPad because connected to the keyboard by a flexible leather-like tether. If you don't hold it it'll just slam down lopsided.
With the Logitech Fabric, you simply close it like I book. Because I perform the action dozens of times a day, it matters to me.
Bottomline, I'm switching between these two keyboards depending on my mood and whether I'm using the case at home or at a local Starbucks.
UPDATE October 2013
Through heavy daily use of my iPad 4 as a business tool, I've come to the conclusion that the Fabricskin and my Logitech Keyboard Folio for iPad 2G/3G/4G - Electric Blue (920-005453) are the two keyboards that are the most practical for continual use. Previously I had mentioned that Belkin Ultimate Wireless Keyboard and Case for iPad 2, 3rd Gen and 4th Gen with Retina Display was a contender. But it's too flimsy, easily collapses, and was becoming a headache having to ginergly position it when opening and closing it. As well, it made horizontal mark on screen protector. Truly, if you're looking for the best balance between weight, aesthetics, all-day useable, I'd advice sticking with the two Logitechs, I've mentioned above.

Very Functional Folio
By prisrob
Like all Logitech products this FabricSkin Keyboard Folio for iPad arrived with terrific packaging. The box the Logitech arrived in is made just for this product, opens with a lid and is very attractive. You know when you receive this package something good is inside.
First let me exclaim about the color. Not a bright vivid yellow, but a restful yellow that is pleasing to the eye. There is an outside tab of grey that assists in opening the folio. Instructions are in an enclosed plastic envelope, that are visible when you open the folio. I read all of the instructions, but fitting my iPad into the folio is very self explanatory. Once the iPad is in place, you note the two positions of the folio, a typing and a browsing position. Placing it in the typing position, you note the keyboard, and on the right hand side a green light that switches to blinking blue. This is the Bluetooth. In the Settings portion of the iPad, switch on Bluetooth, then select FabricSkinKeyboard folio. Once the status light turns blue, you have a Bluetooth connection to use with the keyboard. I am attuned to using the iPad keyboard, but am playing around with the Bluetooth keyboard. It is relatively easy and there is a Key to describe the function keys.
This folio has the ability of turning the iPad on, when you open the folio, and it turns off to the sleep mode when the folio is closed. Appropriate areas for the camera, and the battery charger cord are marked. There is a plus and minus sign on the upper right hand side for sound level.
There is an enclosed Micro-USB cable enclosed in a small package. I could not find this cable easily, which might be noted by Logitech. I eventually noted the cable by checking the directions. This cable is used to charge the folio batteries. When fully charged the battery powers the folio for up to 3months.
This Logitech FabricSkin Keyboard Folio is heavier than my other cover, but it has a nice heft. Not something that will deter you from carrying this around. I am very very pleased with this Folio. This is my third cover, and it is the best one I have found. Attractive, easy to use, the Bluetooth is a real plus. My iPad is as protected as it could be.
I always expect the very best from Logitech, and I was not disappointed. This Logitech FabricSkin Folio is superb!
Highly Recommended. prisrob 06-30-13

Pluses and Minuses
By Traveler
Before using this Logitech FabricSkin Keyboard Folio I had used a Belkin bluetooth folio. The two folio keyboards both offer essentially the exact same function, but with completely different attributes. To cut to the chase, the perfect folio keyboard is neither. I'd like to have the best of both!
Pros of the Logitech
*Superfast connection with iPad which has been a problem with the Belkin
*iPad locks into place upright place and feels secure - opposite of the Belkin which slides out of position
*Protects the iPad and feels secure - opposite of the Belkin
*One piece keyboard is easy to clean and resistant to liquids - opposite of the Belkin, but that's true of any real keyboard
Cons
*Keys are cramped and mistakes are easily made if you have large hands. While this is typical of all keyboards for the iPad given the form factor, the Logitech is worse than the Belkin in this regard
*Keys don't feel as touchy or easy to type with as you get with a typical keyboard - the reverse side of having a one piece keyboard.
As someone who was trained to be a typist (80+ WPM), my biggest desire for a keyboard is the ability to maintain speed. That's hard with ANY keyboard for the iPad because of the inherent cramped space. So for me the Logitech doesn't exactly rock my world. I prefer the feel of the Belkin. But the Belkin has the most annoying problems. The way the iPad slides forward and the Bluetooth connection problems can drive you insane. And it's not comforting to know the Belkin offers just about zero protection to the iPad. So the Logitech has its pluses and minuses - an overall solid construction, but with a cramped keyboard.
If you have smaller hands definitely give the Logitech a look. It's a solid choice for some. For me, not so much.
