My Eight Is Now A Tank!

I just received my otterbox today, & I LOVE it! It turns my delicate note 8 into a virtual tank! I feel so much more confident carrying it around. The built-in screen protector is a plus-feels very thick & is glass-clear. It does feel a bit funky to write on with s-pen, but it's nothing major or bad...just different. I'm not sure I really want to try dropping my tablet to test out the OBD, but it seems like it would offer a great deal of protection. The rubber is harder than I anticipated, but in a way that seems like a good thing, as it will be more durable. If you like to travel light with your 8, forget about this case. It adds some weight & girth. However, to me, that is a good thing! The flimsy Samsung bookcover was good for turning it on & off but offered little protection and slid around on the screen too much while carrying it, making me feel like I would easily drop it! OBD is DEFINITELY AWESOME protection insurance & I greatly recommend it. Pricey but totally worth it!!!!

Great Build Quality, But Comes Up Short

I purchased this case because of the Otterbox quality and recognition. I have used Otterbox cases on other devices such as iPad, nexus 7, iPhone, etc. Upon purchasing this case I thought that it would be quite similar to the case that was designed for the Nexus 7. Quality wise it is but as far as follow-through it falls short. There are several issues which causes one to take pause.
The first area is that just like the Samsung Note 8 screen protectors made by zagg and others this case too has a cutout for a ear piece in the screen protector. Why? This is just a cheap way for manufactures to make a product for several markets. For example in other markets the Note 8 actually has a earpiece and microphone (located by speaker on the bottom) which allows the device to be used as a phone or Phablet. This is not the case in the states so why have a cutout for a ear piece and/or microphone? it is just one more way where dust and junk can get under the screen protector. There is also a cutout for the front Camera, rear Camera IR blaster and home button. In my opinion all of these areas should have been closed with the same plastic used for the screen protection to eliminate these risk but sadly this not the case. At the very least the front ear piece area and front camera should have been covered with clear protectant.
The 2nd area where the case falls short is that unlike the Nexus 7 case where the top cover/stand is narrower then the device case, and the corners have lips that can be grabbed making for easy removal, this device's cover/stand is the same exact width and height as the devices case with no lip for grabbing the lid for removal. This makes removing the top cover/lid more difficult since the unit cannot always be easily detached from the cover while attempting to hold the unit securely.
The 3rd and final area where the case falls short is the lack of smart cover detection feature for the Samsung Note 8. Even with the aftermarket Samsung cover that Samsung makes available while it has numerous shortcomings it does have the magnets which allows the device to automatically turn on whenever the cover is open and to turn off when the cover is closed. Guess what, the Nexus 7 Otterbox cases also has this smart cover feature built in but this Otterbox cover does not incorporate this feature. I'm baffled as to why not. It is probably because of the bezel of the Otterbox case which may interfere with the Smart Cover feature of the Samsung case. I can see where this is going to be a major pain down the road. Because of this short coming I must now make sure that the screen timeout is not set to keep the screen on for a long period of time, which I would never notice once the Otterbox cover has been snapped onto the case.
There is no SD slot access so put as large a card as you believe that you will need as opening the case to change SD cards will get quite old after a while or use a OTG cable as the Note 8 is very good at mounting external drives with no need to hack or modify the system. The cover being used as a stand is a nice addition which is to be expected since this feature exist on other tablet cases
This case is a tough call to recommend. I believe that it is one of the best ruggedized cases available for the Note 8 which is easy to achieve since there are only two manufactures making rugged cases. The other manufacture being Gumdrop. I just feel that two many corners where cut and I expected more from Otterbox. Otterbox let me down with this case. Quality is "A+" features set is "B"

Worth the money

Easy to put on and haven't had any problems with it at all. Not too bulky either. Would purchase for others.
